Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin on Tuesday inaugurated Kalaignar Centenary Boxing Academy, which was constructed by the Department of Youth Welfare and Sports Development at a cost of ₹8 crore, in Gopalapuram in Chennai.The boxing academy with a seating capacity for 890 persons has facilities such as an air conditioning system, practice rings, rooms for coaches, and a gymnasium, among others. This academy will help boxers from Chennai and neighbouring areas to excel in national games, a press release said.Mr. Stalin also distributed prizes to winners of a flyweight-boxing competition.Since Chennai has been an epicentre for boxing, the State government, in 2022, announced the construction of a boxing academy in the city. In November 2023, Mr. Stalin laid the foundation for a boxing academy in Gopalapuram, the release added.Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin, HR&CE Minister P.K. Sekarbabu, Mayor R.
