The incident forced the referee to pause the fight, allowing Cejudo five minutes to recover, after which he attempted to continue. However, after the round ended, Cejudo told his corner, “I cannot f*cking see,” which prompted officials to stop the fight and award Song a technical decision victory.Medical evaluation confirmed that Cejudo suffered from diplopia (double vision), soft tissue damage, and a corneal abrasion. He posted a close-up image of his injured eye on social media, captioning it with his diagnosis. Despite attempting to fight through the injury, he explained, “After those five minutes were up, I still couldn’t see anything. It’s not that I couldn’t see anything, I was seeing double.” Referee Jason Herzog chose not to deduct a point from Song Yadong for the foul, directly impacting the fight’s outcome. The judges scored the bout 30-27, 29-28, and 29-28 in Song’s favor. A point deduction would have resulted in a majority draw instead of a technical decision victory for Song.Cejudo skipped the post-fight press conference and went to a hospital for further medical assessment. Later, he urged the UFC to change its rules, arguing that referees should have the ability to review replays for accidental fouls before making a decision.”Did Song do it intentionally? No. Should there be a point deducted? 100 percent,” Cejudo said.
