Up until the moment the Nintendo Switch 2 is actually in players' hands, it's going to be a hotbed for speculation and rumors. Nintendo itself is expected to stay quiet until the planned Nintendo Direct in April before shedding any further light on its next-gen system. But one of Nintendo's ex-employees isn't bound by his former company's restrictions, and he's sharing his insight into Switch 2's pricing and its potential release window. The Kit & Krysta podcast recently welcomed a former Nintendo sales lead named Sean to the show. Although Sean did not disclose his last name during his appearance, he did stress that all of the "leaks" from retailers about Switch 2's price and release date are simply estimates or guesses. He noted that retailers rarely know when something is coming from Nintendo more than a week before the official announcement. However, Sean suggested the the rumored $400 price for Switch 2 may not be off base."I can't imagine it being too much more than $400… maybe $450 is the highest I can imagine," related Sean. He also suggested that Switch 2 may not include an OLED screen just to keep the price point down, but he didn't rule out a future Switch 2 model incorporating an OLED screen just as the first Switch did.Sean went on to theorize that Switch 2 may launch in June to take advantage of kids being home for the summer. While Sean didn't commit to an exact date in June, he felt that the first month of summer made strategic sense for Nintendo's rollout of Switch 2. But if for some reason Switch 2 skips June, Sean is convinced it will be out before the end of the summer.Other video game analysts have previously estimated that Switch 2 will be $400 at launch, which is $100 higher than the price of the original Switch when it arrived in 2017. Earlier this month, Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa indicated that the company needs to "consider the price range that consumers expect for Nintendo products." That likely means it won't come with the same sticker shock that PS5 Pro did when it debuted in stores with a $700 price tag late last year.In addition to the Nintendo Direct on April 2, the video game maker will be sponsoring Switch 2 Experience events around the world in April to allow players to get their hands on the console before launch. That may be an effective way to get the word out, but it hasn't stopped some fans from attempting to sell off their non-transferable Switch 2 Experience tickets on eBay.
