A team of Earth scientists, ecologists and space research specialists affiliated with several institutions in Brazil has found that despite efforts by the government to preserve the country's coastal tropical forests, much has been lost due to illegal cutting over the past decade. In their study published in the journal Nature Sustainability, the group analyzed a decade's worth of satellite imagery of Brazil's Atlantic Forest region.
