Continuing search operations, prison officials of the central prison of Parappana Agaraha last week recovered four mobile phones along with SIM cards which were concealed in the sewage pipe of the washroom in barrack D.The officials led by Assistant Superintendent of Prisons, Imamsab Myageri conducted a surprise check at room No. 4 of Barrack D and noticed the water flushed in the washroom was not flowing. At least four mobile phones with SIMs wrapped in a plastic cover stuffed in the sewage pipe were recovered.The mobile phones were handed over to the jurisdictional Parappana Agaraha police for further analysis on Wednesday.This is the second seizure in the last week. The officials recovered four mobile phones along with the SIM cards inside a hole drilled in the washroom.The two back-to-back incidents have exposed the lack of security checks inside the prison despite fool-proof multi-level checks .The prison officials after the episode involving Kannada actor Darshan revised security measures and installed advanced Tower-Harmonics Call Blocking System (T-HCBS) jammers. However, this had impacted negatively on the residents in and around the prison who suffered due to lack of network.The residents approached the prison officials with the petition citing that their life and work are affected by the installation of jammers.Even the staff of the jurisdictional Parappana Agarahara Police station, located in close proximity to the jail, are experiencing a multitude of operational difficulties due to the powerful T-HCBS jammer. This includes disruptions to their own mobile phone network, making it difficult for officers to communicate with each other, dispatch units, and receive calls from the public.The prison officials along with DoT officials after a series of meetings have failed to implement effective mitigation measures, a resident who was part of the meeting said.Published - February 22, 2025 07:59 pm IST
