“Do you think golf needs a merger?” asked Dan Rapaport as he sought Paige Spiranac‘s opinion. Spiranac may have settled into a full-time content creator role, but she is still regarded as an expert on golf. The former LPGA Tour star’s opinions are deemed quite valuable by the community, even if they might go against the trend.Being an internet personality, Spiranac doesn’t shy away from speaking her mind. No matter how controversial the topic may be, she always gives her honest outtake on the subject without hesitation. She also wasn’t afraid to agree with Jim Nantz and Brandel Chamblee as she called for banning “Aim Point” recently.More recently, the golf creator has been given a few responsibilities by the PGA Tour. Spiranac briefly joined the team of analysts in the 2025 WM Phoenix Open a few weeks ago. She also joined the Creator Council, recently formed by the PGA Tour. So it wasn’t a surprise when Dan Rapaport questioned Paige Spiranac regarding PGA Tour matters.Spiranac joined Rapaport on the latest edition of the Dan on Golf podcast. So, when asked if golf needs a merger, she answered freely. Without any hesitation, the golf diva replied, “A 100%”. Explaining her position on the subject, she added, “You can see it with the majors that golf is better when all of the stars are in one place”. Watching the PGA Tour and LIV Golf stars play in unison during the majors definitely draws the crowd.“We just need to stop talking about money”, said Spiranac as she criticized Jay Monahan & Co.’s approach to the situation. For anyone who isn’t aware, the PIF-PGA Tour merger has made Jay Monahan & Co. discuss the financial terms publically to explain the situation. They have been trying to convince their partners that they are expecting a $3 billion investment from the Public Investment Funds soon. She believes things changed when “Tiger Woods wasn’t playing week in, week out”. To her credit, the viewership has dropped significantly since he stepped away from full-time golf. But does just having Tiger Woods on the course change that equation? The content creator added, “He wasn’t just moving the needle. He was the needle”. We can agree with Spiranac here as TGL also gets a lot of viewers when Woods is playing in the arena.ATLANTA, GEORGIA – AUGUST 28: Paige Spiranac watches a putt on the 10th hole during the 2024 Creator Classic prior to the TOUR Championship at East Lake Golf Club on August 28, 2024 in Atlanta, Georgia. (Photo by Mike Mulholland/Getty Images)Tiger Woods stepping away from golf and the merger conversation beginning around the same time “was the perfect storm” that Jay Monahan & Co. had to deal with. As a closing statement, Spiranac said, “I’m rooting for the game to be unified. I’m excited for what the future could look like. I just want it to get back to the love of the game and not so much money talk”. While every fan will be rooting for the same, can golf really get back to its previous glory? Let’s take a look at how things might turn out.Paige Spiranac’s hopes might get crushedPaige Spiranac’s dreams of seeing a unified golf do seem beautiful. But after everything that has happened in the past few years, one might wonder if things will be as simple as she expressed it. As far as the “money talks” go, this debate might not get over once the merger is completed. Because the fact is, the likes of Jon Rahm and Bryson DeChambeau did move to LIV Golf for big money. And they have been making bank year after year since 2022. Rahm would have earned substantially more prize money than any of his peers by the time the merger was completed. Brooks Koepka and Bryson DeChambeau might also be much richer than Scottie Scheffler or Xander Schauffele. There will be a major gap in earnings between players of both leagues. This might cause a lot of issues between them.Alternatively, LIV Golf Pros received a lot of criticism for making the switch. Many, including their former peers, called them traitors. After everything they have faced, will every LIV Golf player be able to overlook the criticism and get a clean slate in the PGA Tour? It’s hard to imagine every golfer on the Tour accepting them without any judgment. This will lead to a lot of tension and angst within the ranks. Things might seem fine on paper, but there will definitely be issues that might take a while to get resolved.Do you agree with Paige Spiranac’s comments about the merger being great for golf?
