A fable reunion was in the works. Before landing Jimmy Butler, the Golden State Warriors wanted to play party in sending him to Phoenix. Their ask? A returning partnership of Stephen Curry and Kevin Durant. Having played off each other towards back-to-back titles, the Bay knew the experiment thrived. However, it was KD who reportedly shut down wanting to go back to the place that landed him the championship. But why? Many felt it was because of his ongoing tension with Draymond Green. The Slim Reaper did admit an argument with him pushed his decision over the edge. But in a stunning turn of events, the 15-time All-Star appeared on The Draymond Green Show to explain why he didn’t pursue a reunion with his former championship-winning teammates.Firstly, what Durant holds as a priority is the timing. According to him, it didn’t make sense to switch teams midway through the season just because of how hard it is. He experienced it with Phoenix. However, the doors aren’t fully shut. “I get why y’all want to trade me. Y’all looking at it from the simple fact that’s just business. But from me looking at it, I’m just like it just don’t make sense for either side right now to go through that… If that’s the decision you want to make in the offseason then you know you figure it out,” Durant added. But it did come with a fair warning. Kevin Durant is aware of the enormity of what happens when he moves franchises. And the 15-time All-Star doesn’t think it would be great for the Warriors to make a hasty trade during the deadline because of that.Feb 10, 2024; San Francisco, California, USA; Golden State Warriors guard Stephen Curry (30) and Phoenix Suns forward Kevin Durant (35) talk during the second half at Chase Center. I am still of value, especially with my contract and my production that me just getting up and moving in the season it’s going to be a big blow to any team I’m going to,” KD emphasized.Even though 36, Durant remains one of the deadliest scorers in the league. He also costs $51 million for the year. A trade for him does come with altering the plans and schemes that previously existed to accommodate the behemoth icon. But with the Warriors in particular, he knew how they operate having spent three years of his career in the Bay. The adaptation process would be shorter. However, the dynamics have largely changed within the Warriors. They have younger components that need time to evolve. Moreover, having moved during the deadline in the past, KD knows how hard it is to adjust on the fly.
