Alasdair Gold believes that a 19-year-old Tottenham academy graduate is very highly thought of in the club’s academy and predicts that he might be the next Spurs youngster to make a big impact out on loan.Alfie Dorrington made a loan move to Aberdeen in January and the youngster has made a decent start to life in the Scottish Premier League, which is his first taste of men’s football. The defender was handed his senior debut by Ange Postecoglou in Tottenham’s 5-0 win over Southampton in December of last year, which is proof that he is very much in the Australian’s thinking. However, with several young talented defenders at the club at the moment, he will have a make a big impact at Aberdeen to further his first-team prospects at Spurs, and Alasdair Gold is confident that he will do just that.(Credit: Tom Cusden / @cusden)Alasdair Gold claims Alfie Dorrington is better than Ashley PhillipsDorrington does not only have to worry about the senior centre-backs at Tottenham but would also have to compete with the likes of Ashley Phillips and Luka Vuskovic, who are also out on loan at the moment.Although Phillips is the same age as Dorrington, the former has a lot more experience, having tasted Championship football at Blackburn Rovers, Plymouth Argyle and now at Stoke City. However, Gold believes that one aspect of Dorrington’s game is much better than the Phillips’.Speaking on the Gold and Guest Talk Tottenham Podcast, the journalist said: “In terms of Alfie Donnington, I think he needs his Jamie Donley moment. I think he needs to go somewhere and find that sudden spur of development. He’s very highly rated within the academy.“I’ve seen him have some terrific games. I would say when you’re talking about him and Phillips, I would say that Donnington is far better on the ball. I think in terms of the ability to drive with the ball at his feet as well.”Dorrington is trying to make up for lost time at TottenhamDorrington has had a couple of significant injury setbacks over the last 12 months, which have hindered his development and his opportunity to have that ‘Jamie Donley moment’.The Tottenham man is thus trying to make up for lost time and this loan spell at Aberdeen is crucial for him if he is to have hopes of forcing himself into the first-team conversation at Spurs. One would think that if the teenager does well in Scotland, the natural next step would be to loan him to a top-half Championship club next season. The post Alasdair Gold tips Tottenham acaedemy gem to have a ‘Jamie Donley’ moment appeared first on Spurs Web.
