Arrested from jail, journalist Langa sent to ED cusody

During the course of this investigation, the ED on Tuesday said it found that another FIR had been filed by Satellite police station in Ahmedabad city against Langa, for “committing fraud, causing wrongful loss of lakhs of rupees to the persons concerned”.The Enforcement Directorate (ED) in Ahmedabad on Tuesday said it had arrested journalist Mahesh Langa under the provisions of Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).A statement from ED Ahmedabad said, “Mahesh Prabhudan Langa was produced before the Hon’ble Special Judge (PMLA), Mirzapur Court, Ahmedabad and the court granted four days’ ED custody till February 28.” Langa was arrested by the ED from Sabarmati Central Jail where he has remained since his arrest by the Detection of Crime Branch of Ahmedabad City Police in the very first FIR against him in the GST input tax credit fraud case on October 8, 2024.Overall, this is the seventh investigation against Langa. This includes five FIRs (two by DCB, one each by Satellite, Gandhinagar, and Rajkot police) and two cases by the ED.The fresh investigation against Langa has been initiated by the ED on the basis of the FIR registered by DCB Police Station of Ahmedabad City Police. This FIR accused Langa and others of cheating and criminal breach of trust.  The matter pertains to the third of five FIRs against Langa, which was filed on October 29, 2024, by the DCB for allegedly cheating a businessman to the tune of Rs 28.68 lakh.During the course of this investigation, the ED on Tuesday said it found that another FIR had been filed by Satellite police station in Ahmedabad city against Langa, for “committing fraud, causing wrongful loss of lakhs of rupees to the persons concerned”.
