Ahead of the legislature session set to begin on March 3, prominent leaders of the Opposition BJP and JD(S) met in Bengaluru on Tuesday, February 25, to discuss strategies for putting up a united fight in the legislature to put the government on the mat over various issues.The meeting, convened by Leader of the Opposition in the Assembly R. Ashok, was attended, among others, by Union Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy, former Chief Ministers Basavaraj Bommai and D.V. Sadananda Gowda, and BJP State president B.Y. Vijayendra.Leaders of both the parties are learnt to have discussed issues such as alleged irregularities in the government.After the meeting, Mr. Ashok told media persons that BJP and JD(S) members would put up a united fight against alleged failures of the government as well as irregularities, in the legislature session.Listing the issues that would be taken up by both the parties in the session for debate, he said the increase in incidents of communal clash and alleged failure by the government to act sternly against perpetrators of communal trouble, continued deaths of poor people despite the promulgation of an Ordinance to prevent harassment by microfinance firms, irregularities in the KPSC examination and farmers’ suicides would top the agenda.He sought to downplay the issue of internal tussle in the BJP by maintaining that everything would become alright after the election of the party State president.Published - February 26, 2025 07:02 am IST
