James Maddison reveals that he has spoken to Thomas Tuchel and explained why he is confident that he can be an important player in the England set-up under the German coach. It seems as if James Maddison is a lightning rod for criticism, which is perhaps down to his outspoken nature and his confident body language, along with the swagger he displays on the pitch.Unsurprisingly, that has made him a target from some in the media after former Crystal Palace owner Simon Jordan claimed Maddison won’t help Spurs win trophies while he is in the side. The Tottenham star is continuing to do his talking on the pitch, with his latest assist at Ipswich on Sunday meaning that he has notched up 17 goal contributions across all competitions this season.Maddison was left devastated when left out of Euro 2024 by former boss Gareth Southgate and is keen to pull on the Three Lions jersey once more.(Credit: Tom Cusden / @cusden)James Maddison has spoken to England boss Thomas TuchelThomas Tuchel is about to name his first England squad ahead of the World Cup qualifiers against Albania and Latvia next month, and the Tottenham midfielder reveals that the German coach has touched base with him before his decision.Maddison confidently claimed he believes he will be part of the national team set-up as long as he can keep making the difference in the final third for Tottenham. When asked if Tuchel had spoken to him ahead of his squad announcement, the Spurs vice-captain told The Standard: “Yeah, he has touched base. I think he was reaching out to a lot of players who would be under selection, probably quite a big pool of players that the FA have identified.“I’m hungry to be part of that, I feel like I’m in good form, my numbers are pretty good. There’s not too many midfielders who can outscore and out-assist me, especially now when I’m feeling good as well, feeling sharp, I know I can affect most games.“It’s just about continuing to do that and like I always say, if I play at that level for Tottenham, then the rest will take care of itself because I have a really strong self-belief.”Maddison opens up on his recent injury frustrationMaddison recently missed a few weeks of action, unlike some of his teammates within the Tottenham first-team squad, who have spent months on the sidelines this campaign, however, the former Leicester man admits that the injury came at a frustrating time just as he was hitting his stride. The attacking midfielder expressed his delight at being able to make a big impact on his return to the side having scored in Tottenham’s 1-0 win over Manchester United and came off the bench to provide an assist for Djed Spence in Saturday’s 4-1 victory at Ipswich Town which was Spurs’ third Premier League win a row. When asked about his most recent injury set-back, Maddison said: “I left the ground running in Hoffenheim, I got a goal and an assist that night as well, so I feel good, I feel really good actually, I feel sharp.“The injury was a bit annoying because it came at a time where I felt like I was playing pretty well, but it’s always nice when you have a little injury and you’re out for a few weeks and you come back and hit the ground running.”James Maddison’s stats vs Ipswich TownMinutes Played26′Goals0Assists1Touches26Accurate Passes22/24 (92%)Key Passes1Crosses (acc.)1 (0)Long Balls (acc.)3 (2)Stats via Sofascore as of 24/2/25The post James Maddison admits he's 'hungry' for a chance to play after talks with new manager appeared first on Spurs Web.
