Liverpool part ways with Beard after poor run in WSL

ShareMatt Beard has left Liverpool for the second time, with the Reds seventh in the Women's Super League after struggling for consistency.Liverpool have parted company with manager Matt Beard after losing six of their last eight games in the Women's Super League.Beard returned for a second spell with the Reds in 2021, having led them to two WSL titles during his first stint at the helm between 2012 and 2015.Upon returning, Beard immediately led Liverpool to promotion back to the WSL, then established them in the top flight with finishes of seventh and fourth.But they have failed to kick on this season with a 4-0 defeat to Manchester City on February 16 leaving them seventh.In a club statement, Liverpool thanked Beard for his service and said Amber Whiteley will take over as interim manager while a permanent successor is sought."We have all experienced some fantastic moments with Matt as manager of LFC Women and we express our gratitude for his significant contribution," a club statement said"Our priority was to return this team to where it belongs and we collectively achieved that in 2022 by winning promotion to the WSL."We need to build on that momentum and although this has been a difficult decision, we believe it provides us with the best opportunity for future success on the pitch."Beard recorded a win percentage of 37.93 in the WSL across his second spell in charge, claiming victories in 22 of his 58 games in the competition.Liverpool visit Crystal Palace in the WSL on Sunday, before facing Arsenal in the Women's FA Cup quarter-finals one week later.
