Xiaomi 15 Ultra to take on Galaxy S25 Ultra on Samsung’s turf

Last month, Xiaomi started operating in South Korea, the home country of its biggest rival in the smartphone market, Samsung, taking the tech giant head-on. Now, the Chinese brand is planning to take the rivalry up a notch by launching its latest flagship phone, the Xiaomi 15 Ultra, in Samsung’s backyard, to make things even harder for its direct competitor, the Galaxy S25 Ultra.According to a new report from Korea’s FN News, Xiaomi is planning to launch its latest flagship smartphone, the 15 Ultra, in South Korea. While there’s no information about when that may happen, the company has started teasing the phone on its website for South Korea. Xiaomi unveiled the device today, in China, and will launch it globally on 2 March 2025, at MWC 2025.Xiaomo 15 Ultra specificationsThe Xiaomi 15 Ultra flaunts a 6.73-inch LTPO AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate and 3,200 nits peak brightness. It uses the Snapdragon 8 Elite SoC and is available with up to 16GB LPDDR5X RAM and 1TB UFS 4.0 storage. The company is shipping the phone with Android 15. While those specifications are very impressive, that’s just the tip of the iceberg as we haven’t even started discussing the phone’s more impressive part, the rear camera setup.The phone has a quad-camera setup at the rear. The primary camera is a 50MP Sony LYT 900, which is a 1-inch sensor, with OIS and PDAF. For telephoto shots, there is Samsung’s 200MP HP9 camera with 4.3x optical zoom. Portraits are handled by a 50MP sensor with 3x optical zoom, OIS and PDAF. For ultra wide shots, you get another 50MP sensor with PDAF. On paper, this camera setup looks more advanced than that of the Galaxy S25 Ultra.The Xiaomi 15 Ultra has a 6,000mAh battery supporting a staggering, 90W wired charging and 80W wireless charging. The phone offers Corning Gorilla Glass 7i protection for the display and is water and dust resistant with IP68/IP69 rating. It also has satellite connectivity. The price of the phone in China starts at CNY 6,499 and goes up to CNY 7,999.
