Over 4.2 lakh people screened for cancer as part of drive

The Health department as part of its Arogyam, Anandam: Keep Cancers Away screening campaign has so far screened over 4.2 lakh people, an official statement issued here said.Health Minister Veena George said that special arrangements had been made in 1,398 public health facilities for early cancer screening and that 4.22 lakh people had undergone screening for oral, breast/ cervical cancers in the last 23 days.Of all the individuals screened, 22,605 people had to be referred to higher facilities for further evaluation and confirmatory diagnosis. Through this campaign, 78 persons were newly diagnosed as having cancer and because the disease has been picked up at an early stage, their prognosis ought to be very good, the statement said.Apart from the special camps being conducted, people can walk into any Primary Health Centre/Community Health Centre/Family Health Centre for screening.Published - February 27, 2025 11:59 pm IST
