(Left: Before, Right: After) Toilets in the school were in a dilapidated condition and dysfunctional for which the principal-in-charge and the assistant teacher are jointly responsible, said the BSA.Two teachers, including the principal-in-charge of the ‘Composite School R&R Site’ in the Rehabilitation and Resettlement (RR) colony in Jewar, were suspended on Tuesday for “not discharging their duties and not abiding by departmental directions”.This comes after The Indian Express on February 24 reported on the school’s derelict state: the benches were broken, toilets were filthy, garbage was scattered in the compound and the water hand pump was clogged with dirt and plastic wrappers. This is the only government-run primary school for the children of those displaced during the first phase of land acquisition for the upcoming Noida International Airport at Jewar.During the first phase of land acquisition in 2018, the land in six villages was acquired. This also included the land of the three primary schools in Rohi, Nagla Sareefkha and Nagla Ganeshi. The school was built by the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA); officials said it was handed over to the district administration in 2021.“The two toilets in the school premises were found in a dilapidated condition and were dysfunctional for which the principal-in-charge, Varsha Pal, and assistant teacher, Singh Rekha Surajpal, are jointly responsible,” reads the suspension letter issued by Gautam Buddh Nagar’s Basic Shiksha Adhikari (BSA) Rahul Panwar. The letter also states that an inspection of the school was conducted on BSA Panwar’s orders on February 19 during which it was found that the study material provided was not being utilised because of the indifference and laxity of the school in-charge and teachers. There is neither a timetable for the school nor are teachers allotted classes as per their subject qualifications, it said.“Teachers and working assistant teachers are not discharging their duties and not abiding by departmental directions. Attendance of students was found to be low as departmental directions given to the school to improve the quality of education were not followed. Despite getting composite grants, the toilets were not repaired and made functional,” read the letter.Speaking to The Indian Express on Wednesday, Panwar said the toilets were repaired and made functional after the Block Education Officer inspected the school.Story continues below this adHe also said a letter was written to YEIDA on Tuesday to complete the construction of the boundary walls of the school. “This is to inform you that under the Noida International Airport project, three schools were rehabilitated at the R&R site in Jewar. The boundaries on three sides of the school are yet to be completed. There is a park behind the school and villagers keep coming inside the school premises. Certain anti-social elements are damaging the school property,” read the letter written to the Chief Executive Officer of YEIDA.“You are requested to complete the boundaries and clean the school compound at your level,” it added.
