Jason Azzopardi said the police are trying to track the movements of a white Skoda that was allegedly used to smuggle 200kg of cannabis resin out of the AFM’s Safi barracks.“From what I am being told, the theft of 200kg of drugs from within the AFM barracks – and therefore not a place where you and I can freely access – is more serious than what we are aware of,” the lawyer said yesterday.“Between 2pm and 5pm, police entered homes close to Ħal Safi, including Mqabba, to retrieve CCTV footage from private residences in the area.”“It seems that a vehicle had entered the AFM barracks but the AGM didn’t even carry out a search on it as it was leaving the building. Police are now trying to track the vehicle’s movements.”“Drug barons have bought you too, you criminals who seized a party and country.”He later said the vehicle was a white Skoda and passed through Triq iż-Żurrieq.AFM Brigadier Clinton J O’Neill has been suspended as a result of this theft, and an administrative inquiry has been opened into the case.Home Affairs Minister Byron Camilleri also offered his resignation, but this was rejected by Prime Minister Robert Abela.•
