UFC star Paddy Pimblett plans on beating veteran Michael Chandler to secure a bout with Conor McGregor.Pimblett will meet Chandler in the Octagon at UFC 314 Saturday 12 April for a five-round co-main event. Winning the belt at lightweight is a hard ask as Islam Makhachev holds a tight grip on the goldIn the same event, Alexander Volkanovski aims to regain his featherweight title against Diego Lopes.Pimblett is currently ranked 12th in the UFC lightweight rankings and a win in April should push him above 7th where Chandler is positioned. However, it will be no easy feat for Pimblett to get his hand raised against the American.Despite a UFC record of 2-4, Chandler has been very impressive fighting former champion Charles Oliveira, Justin Gaethje and Dustin Poirier. His two wins came in spectacular fashion via a high front kick against Tony Ferguson and a knockout against Dan Hooker in the first round of his UFC debut.Pimblett remains undefeated in Dana White’s promotion after six fights – with his most recent win ending via submission in round one against King Green.“Sounds very tasty,” Pimblett said. “A lot of people have said this to me already. ‘Beat Chandler, take the McGregor fight.’“Obviously, it’s the biggest fight in the sport, the biggest fight we’ve ever seen.”But McGregor remains inactive as a fighter, having not had a professional MMA bout since July 2021 when he lost to Dustin Poirier. In that bout he broke his leg, while in 2024 he saw a pinky toe injury cancel a bout with Chandler at UFC 303.McGregor has had his eye elsewhere attempting to plan a boxing fight with Logan PaulGettyThe Irishman’s idleness has resulted in him no longer being a ranked fighter.Earlier this year McGregor posted a racist and Islamophobic rant directed at former rival Khabib Nurmagomedov.Fellow Irish fighter Paul Hughes confessed ‘I’m not like this other guy [McGregor]’ after a loss to Usman Nurmagomedov, Khabib’s cousin.Last year, McGregor lost a civil rape case and was ordered to pay £206,000 in damages. When asked to clarify McGregor’s position in the UFC, White recently responded: “He hasn’t been fighting here in how long? If he does fight it will be sometime next year.”
