“I’m my own motivation.” One of the Paris Olympics bronze medalist hurdlers lives by this motto. But, she has also grown up watching someone in her own family as a role model. And that’s none other than her brother. The two make a powerhouse track and field sibling duo, six years apart in age. But it’s her brother’s story that really hits deep. He’s faced a terrifying health battle yet never gave up. And that’s something that fuels his younger sister every single day. Any guess who this is?We are talking about Jasmine Camacho Quinn and her brother Robert Quinn. Robert Quinn was an NFL player who started off his career as a defensive end with the St. Louis Rams, shifting to the LA Rams, Miami Dolphins, Dallas Cowboys, and the Bears before he finally joined the Philadelphia Eagles at 32. But as a 17-year-old high schooler, he was diagnosed with a tumor the size of a dime at the base of his brain. Although that was way back in 2007, he was told, he could have been brain-dead. And that he was never playing sports again. Yet, after his surgery, Quinn was back to wrestling the next season, before he went to North Carolina on a full football scholarship. And this comeback of a lifetime inspires his sister Jasmine like nothing else! The 28-year-old Puerto Rican track and field pro appeared on the Ready Set Go podcast aired on YouTube recently and spoke about how the journey of her brother Robert inspires her. “I would say kind of like, he is my brother, yeah, whatever. But just to see him get to that point, everything he’s went through…. he didn’t finish his senior year, he had a brain surgery.” She even described what it was like to see him so physically vulnerable when she herself was a teenager. “I was 11 at the time and passing out at school, passed out while driving, yeah it was a lot”But the fact that he bounced back into sports from that is what nearly shocks Jasmine Camacho Quinn. “And I don’t know, Robert I don’t know, I don’t think I’ve ever come across somebody like Robert. Like I said, he had brain surgery, once he got cleared, I want to say maybe January, I don’t know how he did it, he was a wrestler.” And not just ANY wrestler, Jasmine clarified, “He won states in wrestling [[heavyweight] and I am like, just had a brain surgery and not no easy brain surgery, like how you just, okay, whatever. But you know like stuff like that is inspiring.” Of course, imagine doing that after the powerhouse of your body, your brain has been operated! The track and field athlete even clarified, “I don’t know any other athlete, I would say, I don’t even want to say football player, No, Imma say football ‘cuz other sports could come out whenever…I don’t know no other football player that’s only played two years in college and still go first round….” That’s when even Rodney Green praised him saying, “Shout out to you Robert, Robert you need to write a book!” Well, to go through such a major health crisis yet bounce back right up is no walk in the park. But since Robert Quinn has a supportive family who perhaps made the process a little easier for him. Especially a sister who is a track and field athlete and thus understands his drive and passion to show up on the field. The track and field- NLF Quinn sibling duo both pursued the ringsWhen Robert Quinn made his Super Bowl debut in 2023, Jasmine Camacho-Quinn was seated in the stands to watch her brother go at it! And when she won an Olympic gold in Tokyo, Robert praised her just the right amount, “Winning the gold is something to be proud of and knowing that the challenges and all that stuff is still incredible. To be the best in the world, a lot of people don’t get to say that. I can say that about my baby sister.”Clearly, the sibling duo have been supporting each other in their sporting careers. And well, bragging about it too. But they have every right to! Just like Robert’s physical health scare, even Jasmine Camacho-Quinn went through a tough time with her mental health at Rio 2016. Yet they have been there for each other through thick and thin. What do you have to say about his track and field x NFL sibling duo?
