The Kangana Ranaut-starrer Emergency, which made Rs 18.35 crore during its run, opened at Rs 2.5 crore. This makes Mere Husband Ki Biwi one of the weakest Bollywood openers of the year; the only mainstream Hindi film that made less money was the Khushi Kapoor and Junaid Khan-starrer Loveyapa, which made Rs 1.15 crore.Mere Husband Ki Biwi has been directed by Mudassar Aziz, who previously directed the Akshay Kumar-starrer Khel Khel Mein. That film was a flop at the box office despite scoring a release on the coveted Independence Day weekend. Arjun and Bhumi were last seen together in a film called The Lady Killer, which was released without any promotions, directly on YouTube. It was said that the film was released in an incomplete state.Before that, Bhumi appeared in films such as Afwaah, Bheed, Raksha Bandhan and Badhaai Do. None of these films performed well at the box office.
