Fuego volcano (Guatemala): new lava flow

Wait 5 sec.

The elevated effusive activity at Fuego last night (image: CONRED)The Instituto Nacional de Sismología, Vulcanología, Meteorología e Hidrología reported that the activity at the volcano has been increasing since last night. The activity has become more effusive and has begun to form a new lava flow at the summit. The strong incandescence, indicating lava material, continues to occupy the entire crater and the upper part of the western flank. Glowing rockfalls tumble down over the Seca and Santa Teresa chutes at about 600 meters from the crater.Weak-to-moderate strombolian-to-vulcanian-sized explosions continue to take place from the summit vent at roughly regular intervals of 8 to 10 per hour. Eruptions released ash emissions to an elevation range between 4,500 m (14,800 ft) and 4,700 m (15,400 ft) over the past few days. Ash plumes extended about 40 km to the west-northwest of the volcano. Source: Instituto Nacional de Sismología, Vulcanología, Meteorología e Hidrología volcano activity update 5 June 2025
