Four years after signing for the club in a record deal, Grealish looks set to not only miss out on a place in City’s Club World Cup squad, but also leave the club permanently. It’s a huge fall for the midfielder, who said goodbye to Aston Villa, the club he joined as a six-year-old and made 213 appearances for, to complete the biggest transfer in the summer of 2021.Much was expected of Grealish, and the midfielder was booed at pretty much every stadium he visited, and the England international took some time to settle in Manchester. He scored on his home debut in a 5-0 victory over Norwich City and on his Champions League debut as City thrashed RB Leipzig 6-3 at the Etihad Stadium. However, his form was erratic and Grealish admitted that adapting to City’s style of play was much more difficult than he had previously imagined. The following season was one to remember, not just for Grealish, but also for the Blues as they achieved another treble, this time swapping the League Cup for the Champions League as they became champions of Europe for the first time. However, Grealish again hit the headlines after being photographed partying a little too hard following the amazing trophy haul.Since then, he has continued to be erratic, in and out of Pep Guardiola’s side and failed to make the pitch in May’s 1-0 FA Cup Final defeat to Crystal Palace. Now, the England star faces the very real possibility of missing out on City’s Club World Cup ambitions, which kicks off in ten days.So what next for Grealish? Guardiola has given a very subtle hint that the midfielder may be on his way out of the Etihad Stadium. Speaking about the star in May, Guardiola said, “Of course, Jack has to play. “He’s an unbelievable player that has to play football every three days. “It didn’t happen this season and last season either. He needs to do it - with us or another place.“It’s a question for Jack, his agent, and the club. If he stays, it will be fine and he fought like he fought from day one to make a contribution.”However, his imminent exclusion from the squad that will travel to the USA is another indication that the midfielder’s time at City is now up, and many suitors will be lining up to get his signature. One of which is reported to be Everton, with manager David Moyes looking to Grealish as the man who will kick-start the Toffees once more. The midfielder may also look to return to Villa, who narrowly missed out on a Champions League place next season.Spurs, who made a £25m bid for Grealish while he was still at Villa in 2018, may come in for a second attempt, or Grealish could be tempted away from the Premier League and try his luck abroad. Saudi Arabia may be a destination as they seem to be looking to take as many Premier League stars as possible to the Saudi Pro League. The only other option for the midfielder so far will be to stay and fight for his place. But with the Blues agreeing a fee for AC Milan midfielder Tijani Reijnders, Grealish may feel his options would be better served away from the club.
