‘Definitely not’ – Shedeur Sanders and Joe Flacco in awkward exchange as stunning trade buzz heats up for Browns rookie

Wait 5 sec.

Joe Flacco is all business on the practice field. The Cleveland Browns quarterback, who last week snapped back at suggestions he would settle for a ‘mentor’ role in his 19th NFL season, has made it clear he wants to play football.Flacco has made it clear he wants to be the starter for the Browns in 2025GettyAnd he certainly doesn’t have time to dance.Rookie Shedeur Sanders, though, is different. As the two Browns stars lined up for drills this week, their polar opposite personalities shone through, and provided a rather awkward moment that cameras picked up.“You ever hit that dance?” Sanders, who suffered an all-time NFL Draft slide, asked his veteran teammate, before busting out a few moves. His question was lighthearted and harmless, and it was one that drew an amusing response from Flacco.“Definitely not. I don’t know if I’ve ever hit a public dance move in my life,” he said, before walking off.The exchange between the two quarterbacks was shared by the Browns on social media, and drew an mixed response from fans.“Shedeur and Flacco having fun out there!” one person said.“It’s like the fun uncle and his favorite nephew,” another joked.“That’s his rook!” a third concluded.Cameras caught an amusing conversation between Flacco and SandersX: @BrownsShedeur went on to bust out some moves on the practice fieldX: @BrownsFlacco appeared unimpressed, and walked offX: @BrownsWhile many saw the funny side, some suggested the moment summed up the difference in mentality between the two players.“That’s the difference between a guy who’s played and won a Super Bowl, that takes the game serious, and a 2nd string practice squad QB,” one said.“Joe is a Super Bowl winning QB that only cares about playing. Shedeur wants to be a celebrity,” another suggested.“Cringe as hell,” a third wrote.Flacco is the presumed Week 1 starter for the Browns, and was brought in to lead a quarterback room that also includes another rookie in Dillon Gabriel, and the inexperienced Kenny Pickett, who has started 25 games across three NFL seasons. While Sanders is one of those stars who is supposed to represent the future in Cleveland, he has already been linked with an audacious departure.Rookie Sanders has already been linked with a move away from the BrownsGettyMax Dible of Heavy.com has suggested a trade which would see the Browns send Sanders and a fourth-round pick to the Indianapolis Colts, in exchange for Anthony Richardson, would make sense.“The Indianapolis Colts benched Anthony Richardson in favor of Flacco during the middle of last season and acquired former New York Giants and Minnesota Vikings signal caller Daniel Jones in free agency to compete with him for the starting job this preseason,” Dible wrote.“All signs point to Richardson being on his last chance to establish himself as the long-term starter in Indy.“Should he fail to do so, the Colts will likely look to move him, and do so ahead of the mid-season deadline so that the receiving team can get Richardson some reps before deciding on his fifth-year option next summer. “Thus, if Jones wins the job during the preseason, Cleveland could potentially make an offer of Sanders and a fourth-round pick in 2026 in exchange for Richardson.”At this point in time, a trade like that would make little sense.Richardson, the fourth overall pick of the 2023 draft, has struggled during his first two NFL seasons. He threw just eight touchdowns and 12 interceptions in 11 games for the Colts last year, and was benched midway through the season for Flacco.Richardson has struggled with the Colts, and could be moved on in 2025GettyPrior to that decision, Richardson had generated an NFL-worst 44.4% completion percentage in six games. He later returned to the starting role and showed a bit of improvement, but his struggles have continued ahead of the 2025 season, and it has been confirmed Richardson will miss mandatory minicamp with a shoulder injury. There would be no reason for the Browns to trade Sanders and a future pick for a player like Richardson who has stuttered in his early career, especially if he loses his starting position in Indianapolis to Jones.Shedeur, who has been lauded by fans as he has already made it clear he will pay his dues to Cleveland’s veterans, is yet to play a snap in the NFL.Flacco is expected to start for Cleveland in Week 1, while Sanders is the futureGettyAmid some wild trade speculation, the Browns will surely want to see what they have in the rookie signal caller before they even consider trading him.Stay up to date with the latest from the NFL across all platforms – follow our NFL Facebook page, subscribe to our talkSPORT End Zone YouTube channel for all the offseason news, interviews and more
