So, is Calandagen vulnerable given his skimpy odds?Get the best Coronation Cup odds here with the best online horse betting sites.Coronation Cup Runner By Runner Betting Guide 3 Calandagan (6)Age: 4Weight: 9st 2lbForm: 1122-2Rating: 124Jockey: Mickael BarzalonaTrainer: F-H GraddardOn paper, this should be straightforward for the classy Calandagan, but he has proven to be expensive to follow of late. In his last two runs, he has been beaten at short odds, and given that he is an odds-on chance for the Coronation Cup, he is one that you should not be loading up on. Yes, he has more than enough class to win this, but do you want to take short odds, given that he is not bulletproof? I wouldn’t, and for all that he is the most likely winner, I will take him on.Star rating: Bet on Calandagan with BetVictor 6 Jan Brueghel (3)Age: 4Weight: 9st 2lbForm: 1111-2Rating: 117Jockey: Ryan MooreTrainer: Aidan O’BrienUnbeaten as a three-year-old, Jan Brueghel topped it off with a gutsy win in St Leger at Doncaster on his final start, where his stamina kicked in, and he got up late to beat his stablemate Illinois. On his return this season, he didn’t cover himself in glory, given how he carried himself and looked as if he wasn’t putting it all in, which is worrying coming back into Group 1 company. Even so, there will be no one finishing as strong as him in the closing stages, and if he is close enough as the pace is injected into the race, then he could outstay them all if he returns to his best.Star rating: Bet on Jan Brueghel with bet365 5 Giavellotto (5)Age: 6Weight: 9st 2lbForm: 1131-5Rating: 121Jockey: Oisin MurphyTrainer: Marco BottiGiavellotto is a three-time Group 2 winner on home turf and backed up his two impressive Group 2 wins last season when finishing Kyprios three lengths too good in the Irish St Ledger before heading to Sha Tin, where he finally cracked it at Group 1 level. The form of his Group 1 win is questionable, given that he was well beaten at the same level in Meydan, where he was no match for Danon Decile. He has five lengths to find with Calandagan from their meeting in Meydan, and at the age of six, it is hard to see where the improvement is going to come from to close the gap. It’s hard to see him winning, but he will most definitely be fighting it out for some place money.Star rating: Bet on Giavellotto with SBK 7 You Got To Me (2)Age: 4Weight: 8st 13lbForm: 44127-Rating: 112Jockey: David EganTrainer: Ralph BeckettShe’s a talented filly in her own right who has a Group 1 win to her name when taking the Irish Oaks last season. Even though You Got To Me has it to find with Jan Brueghel on their meeting in the St. Ledger last season, she can be forgiven that run, considering that the race was not run to suit her, and it was at the end of a long season for the daughter of Nathaniel. Connections have done well to spot what is not the strongest of Group 1s, and considering that she gets the fillies allowance, with course form to fall back on (4th in last season Oaks), You Got To Me could be a torn in the side of the odds on favourite. She has a bit to find on ratings, but if she is ready to go on after a 265-day break, this Group 1 winning filly could be about to upset her male counterparts. She is of great interest in every way.Star rating: Bet on You Got To Me with Ladbrokes 1 Ancient Wisdom (1)Age: 4Weight: 9st 2lbForm: 813-72Rating: 114Jockey: William BuickTrainer: Charlie ApplebyAncient Wisdom put a poor comeback run at Newbury behind him when trying to make all in a Group 3 at Sandown, only to be headed inside the final furlong by Al Aasy. He will need to settle and find new heights that he has not even threatened to reach to win here. Also, given that the only time he has run at Epsom, he appeared to have struggled with the track, and this only adds to the obstacles he must overcome.Star rating: Bet on Ancient Wisdom with Tote 2 Bellum Justum (7)Age: 4Weight: 9st 2lbForm: 321-51Rating: 112Jockey: James DoyleTrainer: Andrew BaldingBellum Justum may lack the class to be a Group 1 horse, but he only has a neck to find with Jan Brueghel on their clash in Gordon Stakes last season. He comes in here on the back of a career-best performance at Newmarket, and this course winner cannot be dismissed lightly. He may not win, but if some of the main players underperform on the day, then Bellum Justum is more than capable of taking full advantage. I wouldn’t put anyone off betting on him each way.Star rating: Bet on Bellum Justum with BetVictor 4 Continuous (2)Age: 5Weight: 9st 2lbForm: 9-3959Rating: 112Jockey: Wayne LordanTrainer: Aidan O’BrienRecent form figures give you an idea of how far this former Group 1 winner has fallen. He looks like a shell of his former self and is in here to try to make it a proper stamina test for his stablemate, Jan Bruegal. However, recent evidence suggests that he may not even be capable of that. He’s an easy pass.Star rating: Bet on Continuous with bet365 Coronation Cup VerdictIf Calandagan is on his a-game, then he will prove very hard to beat. But he has looked vulnerable in the past, and I will take him on at the prices with YOU GOT TO ME. She is a Group 1 winning filly in her own right and has shown some top-class form throughout all of last season. With the likelihood that she will be able to kick on again this season, she rates as a big each-way player at her current odds.About the authorAndrew HalliganMy name is Andrew Halligan, horse racing pundit and founder of YouTube’s The Finishing Line Podcast.
