The saga of Aaron Rodgers’ move to the Pittsburgh Steelers is showing no sign of ending.Despite it appearing for months that the future Hall of Famer has only two options — Pittsburgh or retirement — we are yet to get a decision.Rodgers has left the door open for New Orleans to make a runGettyWith two sets of OTAs already down, the next significant scheduled event is mandatory minicamp June 10-12.Of course, as the New York Jets found out last season, mandatory has a different meaning to Rodgers and the pursuit could drag on well into the summer.Head coach Mike Tomlin is looking to protect the longest streak of winning seasons ever for an NFL coach but a quarterback room of returning Steelers flop Mason Rudolph, ex-Miami Dolphins backup Skylar Thompson, and sixth-round pick Will Howard will put his record to the test.ESPN analyst Peter Schrager tore into Pittsburgh for allowing Rodgers, believed to be worth around $30 million a season, to back the franchise into a corner.“This isn’t the Jets last year or two years ago where it’s this desperate franchise and, ‘Oh, the savior, Aaron Rodgers, come!'” he said on Get Up.“This is the Pittsburgh Steelers. This is the Pittsburgh Steelers that has all those Super Bowl trophies and has veteran guys in the locker room who think they can be competitive this year.“The Steelers put themselves in this corner. When Aaron Rodgers met with them and the Giants, Aaron Rodgers said, ‘I do not have a timetable. So if you’re not comfortable with that, go ahead and move on.’ “The Giants promptly moved on and signed Jameis Winston, Russell Wilson and drafted a rookie quarterback… The Steelers sat on their hands, waited and said, ‘It’s on you.'”The Jets — not-so-proud owners of the longest playoff drought in US sports — had no choice but to make a Hail Mary play on Rodgers.Tomlin’s Steelers are supposed to be an example of how to run a franchise. Rodgers is running out of time and optionsGettyTomlin did not address the QB room until the sixth round of the draftGettyIf next season is a disaster, critics will point to the Rodgers offseason circus — coming a year after he skipped Jets camp to vacation in Egypt — as the reason why.Brian Batko, Steelers beat writer for the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, exclusively told talkSPORT that no specific time has been given for when Rodgers must report to the team.“Training camp certainly would be kind of the absolute finish line for when you need to start installing this stuff and going through padded practices,” Batko said.“Some people are even throwing out, almost tongue in cheek, ‘Well, they’ll wait til Week 1.’“That’s not realistic. That doesn’t make sense.“But the more you keep moving the goalpost back, outlandish things like that do seem less outlandish.”NFL's Greatest......Ranking the top 10......Quarterbacks of all-time – Can anyone better Tom Brady?Wide receivers of all-time – Does Randy Moss or Jerry Rice come out on top?Running backs of all-time – Stacking Jim Brown, Barry Sanders, Walter Payton, Emmitt Smith and moreTight ends of all-time – How does Travis Kelce compare? It is not all doom and gloom, former NFL GM Mike Tannenbaum thinks Tomlin has a serviceable plan B.“Is there something about the Steelers that they think about Will Howard, who, but for a pretty bad workout at the Combine may have been a top three-round pick?” Tannenbaum asked on the Unsportsmanlike podcast.“As great as Aaron Rodgers was, he’s gonna be 42 this December. Like, are we better off with a young Will Howard that has everything in front of him that’ll be (chomping) at the bit? “So, to me, the Aaron Rodgers thing, like what are we really getting now at the end of the day?”The Steelers face the Jets in Week 1 and could come up against former QB Justin Fields, who was let go along with Russell Wilson — now a New York Giant — to presumably pave the way for Rodgers. Will Rodgers also be suiting up against his former employers? Tomlin’s reputation could hinge on it.Stay up to date with the latest from across the NFL via our talkSPORT Facebook page, and subscribe to our Endzone YouTube channel for news, view and exclusive interviews as we build up to the NFL Draft in April
