President Trump has been on a pardoning spree regardless of how critical the public may have been of some of his picks. Bravo’s Next Gen: NYC star Gia Giudice now hopes she can secure one final pardon — for her father, Joe Giudice. Giudice’s family gained fame through their various family dramas playing out on The Real Housewives of New Jersey. But they once got into legal trouble that was so consequential, it even eclipsed the Real Housewives fanbase. Joe and Teresa were indicted on federal fraud charges in 2013. Teresa was sentenced to 11 months, while Joe was sentenced to 41 months. But Joe isn’t a U.S. citizen, so immediately after his sentence was completed, he was deported and now lives and works in the Bahamas. He has shared his frustrations with whoever is willing to listen, with People even reporting one instance where he saw someone else at the embassy being granted a U.S. visa despite, in Joe’s opinion, “looking like a criminal.” Well, Joe actually was a criminal, and he doesn’t seem to have an ounce of humility, but he hopes that won’t matter much since Trump is clearly not concerned about that when issuing his pardons. Joe has said he has met Trump and that the President “should get me back.” But Gia is now the star of the family, and she has decided to take it upon herself to try to persuade the President to grant a full pardon for her father. Page Six reports that Gia was inspired by Trump’s recent pardons for the Chrisley family, who also faced fraud charges. While those pardons raised concerns about how some victims were denied justice, Gia clearly saw it differently. “Watching the Chrisley family receive a second chance inspired me,” Gia explained in a plea on her Instagram. “It showed me that people can be forgiven, that families can be restored, and that sometimes the justice system has room for grace. That gave me hope. Hope that maybe my dad could come home too.” In the caption, she tagged Trump’s page and used the hashtag #BringJoeHome. One commenter asked, “Are you currently aware of what’s going on with immigration at the moment in this country? Smh.” Most comments pointed out her father’s white-collar crime, adding that just because they’re celebrities doesn’t mean they get to have special treatment. The least surprising outcome here would be Trump actually going through with pardoning Joe. Cheap flattery is catnip to Donald Trump, and he has already started walking back some of the stringent immigration policies, specifically those affecting farm workers, who directly impact the output of wealthy people like himself who own farms. There should definitely always be a path for redemption when someone shows remorse and a change in behavior. That’s not something Joe has demonstrated. But with Trump, the path to redemption begins and ends with how much he likes you.
