My cat won't stop following me around and sticking his face in my bowl if I eat fruits on the couch. So I've started offering them to him, he takes it gently in his mouth, spits it out, sniffs it on the ground and hits it with his paw a few times, and then comes back to me to ask for the real thing I'm eating. He got confused as well when we gave my dog veggies when my dog was alive. He'd try to steal it from his mouth, then get confused.
