A Youth Congress protest march to the office of the District Medical Officer (DMO) demanding the resignation of Health Minister Veena George turned violent on Saturday (July 5), leading to clashes with the police and traffic disruption.The protest, led by the Youth Congress with the slogan ‘Health sector in Kerala on ventilator’, saw the police using water cannons after activists attempted to forcibly open the gate of the office. Youth Congress Taliparamba Mandal president Prajeesh Krishnan sustained injuries in the incident. Several activists were taken into custody and removed from the premises.Tensions escalated when a few protesters scaled the gate and attempted to plant banana plants on top in a symbolic protest. The police intervened and cleared them from the scene. Following the march, the activists blocked the national highway at Pallikunnu, causing traffic disruption.The protest was inaugurated by Youth Congress State general secretary Jomon Jose and presided over by district president Vijil Mohanan.Published - July 05, 2025 08:34 pm IST
