Who Could Leave Manchester City This Summer?

In preparation for the tournament, the transfer window will open as of today and remain open until June 10th, giving competing clubs an opportunity to sign new players prior to the competition starting. However, all eyes will be on the Blues activity and who they will bring in to replace Kevin de Bruyne and strengthen the defence that leaked 44 goals last season. But, before the Blues can think of signing anyone new, there may be a few departures following the World Cup. Here’s who could be set for the Etihad revolving door.EdersonHe has just completed his eighth season with the Blues, but there is some talk that this one may be the last for the crazy Brazilian keeper. Ederson was subject to bids from Saudi Arabia last summer and, not at 31, there is a possibility that he may be tempted this time around. He made 26 Premier League appearances for the Blues last season, down on any of his previous seven seasons and it may be possible that the keeper, known for some of the most crazy moments between the sticks, could leave the club this summer.John StonesThe former Everton man endured a torrid time in his first season at Manchester City, but then went on to become one of the best defenders at the club. Signed by Pep Guardiola in 2016, Stones initially struggled to adapt, with some on social media stating that a pile of stones would be better in defence. But Stones has made over 270 appearances for City and successfully converted to a midfield role under Guardiola. His two goals against Arsenal and Wolves rescued late points for the Blues and he may stay to complete his tenth season. However, there are rumours that Everton want to take him back to Merseyside, and consistent first-team football may be an appeal for the 31-year-old.Jack GrealishIt’s fair to say that Jack Grealish’s Manchester City Career hasn’t panned out exactly how he would have hoped. The midfielder arrived on the back of a £100m price tag and, while he has shown some flashes of brilliance, hasn’t reached the dizzying heights that were expected of him. Grealish himself accepted that his first season at the club was difficult and he struggled to adapt to life at the Etihad Stadium. He has made 157 appearances for the club since joining in 2021 and there is supposed interest from Newcastle, should the Blues opt to let the England man go this summer.Ilkay GundoganGundo returned last summer to a hero’s welcome, but it has been a difficult season for the former captain. The German star only scored his first league goal of the season in the 2-0 victory at Fulham last weekend, a far cry from when he was scoring for fun before he left for Barcelona. Now aged 34, Gundogan’s best days may be behind him and if he stays, he will likely play a holding part coming on towards the end of the match to see out a result. I have a feeling though that Saudi Arabia may come calling for him this summer.
