Gujarat: BJP, Congress announce candidates for by-elections

By: Express News Service Ahmedabad | June 2, 2025 00:42 IST 2 min readThe Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Sunday announced the names of its candidates for the by-elections in the Assembly constituencies of Kadi in north Gujarat and Visavadar in Saurashtra region.The party nominated Rajendra Chavda from Kadi constituency and Kirit Patel from Visavadar constituency to fight the polls, scheduled for June 19. The Congress, meanwhile, nominated Ramesh Chavda for the by-elections in Kadi.The Congress, however, did not announce its candidate for the Visavadar constituency seat.BJP’s candidate for Kadi, Rajendra, is a former member of the Mehsana taluka panchayat. He will fight against Congress’s Ramesh, who is a former MLA from the Kadi constituency. Ramesh had got elected from Kadi on a Congress ticket in 2012.Kadi is a constituency reserved for the Scheduled Caste.In Visavadar, BJP candidate Kirit is a former district president of the party and a noted cooperative leader.The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) had already declared Gopal Italia and Jagdish Chavda as its candidates for Visavadar and Kadi seats, respectively.The by-election in Kadi constituency was necessitated following the death of sitting BJP MLA Karshan Solanki in February.Story continues below this adMeamwhile, the Visavadar seat has fell vacant after its sitting MLA from AAP, Bhupendra Bhayani, resigned in December 2023 and later joined the BJP.While polling for the elections is scheduled for June 19, the last date for filing nominationd is June 2 (Monday).Stay updated with the latest - Click here to follow us on Instagram© The Indian Express Pvt LtdTags:Gujarat bypolls
