Samsung has been supporting Matter, a new and open smart home standard, since its launch three years ago. And it has been among the first to support new Matter releases. Since Matter 1.4.1 has been released, Samsung could soon bring it to its smart home platform, SmartThings, for easier multi-device pairing.Matter 1.4.1 has been released, and it could soon be supported by SmartThingsThe Matter 1.4.1 release is now official. It is the first minor release for Matter, and it brings easier pairing processes to make setting up compatible smart home devices. It now supports one QR code for multiple devices and NFC. It also reduces reliance on third-party apps. All these features could soon come to Samsung's SmartThings platform, as the South Korean firm has been among the first to support newer Matter releases. Multi-device QR codes makes it easier to setup a multi-pack devices, such as a set of four smart bulbs. Currently, when setting up such devices require you to go through the entire setup process four times, one for each device. However, with multi-device QR codes, you will go through the setup process just once. Once you scan that QR code, all four smart bulbs will be set up in just one ago.NFC is now supported by Matter, so you can skip scanning QR codes. This will make it easier to set up devices by tapping your phone to your new Matter-compatible smart home device. Sometimes, it is hard to reach a device to scan its QR code. For example, when you have already installed your new smart bulb on the wall or in a hanging light, it is hard to reach the bulb to scan its QR code. NFC-based pairing is easier, as you can tap the NFC tag inside the device before you install it in its holder.Matter 1.4.1 also allows you to read the smart home device manufacturer's terms and conditions directly inside the smart home app of your choice. So, when you set up your new smart light, you can read its terms and conditions directly inside the SmartThings app. Earlier, smart home apps used to kick out users to the third-party's website, which broke the installation and setup process.Since Matter 1.4.1 has just been released, it could take a few months before it makes it to SmartThings. For the record, Matter 1.4 was released in November 2024, and it was integrated into SmartThings in April 2025. So, expect 4-6 months before you can see Matter 1.4.1 compatibility into SmartThings. And smart home devices based on the new Matter release could take even longer to hit the market. The post SmartThings will get easier multi-device pairing via Matter 1.4.1 appeared first on SamMobile.
