(File Photo)The Delhi Police Friday busted a fake call centre operating from the basement of a Noida building and arrested eight people allegedly involved in a credit card scam. The police have also seized 24 mobile phones and a diary with a log of Rs 6.5 crore of defrauded transactions.According to the police, the alleged fake call centre was being run by Vikas, 28, and Kundan Singh, 31, along with Divyam, 22, and five women – all of whom were arrested – for the last seven months.“Upon sustained questioning, they disclosed that their telemarketers contacted individuals over the phone under the pretext of increasing their credit card limits, subsequently sending them a malicious link to collect their account details,” Sachin Sharma, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Outer, Delhi Police, said.The case came to light on March 22, when a complainant approached the Cyber Police Station (Outer), claiming that he was defrauded of Rs 6,000 after he got a call from people claiming that they could boost his credit card limit.“The fraud was committed under the pretext of increasing his credit card limit, during which the accused obtained sensitive card details and the OTP from the victim through malicious links and fraudulent phone calls,” DCP Sharma said.After checking Internet Protocol Detail Records (IPDR), Call Detail Records (CDR), and IMEI searches of the phone number from which the complainant received a call, the police tracked the device to a building in Noida Sector-63.“The location of the primary accused and the operational hub of the call centre was identified in the basement of Building D-60, Sector-63, Noida.
