IMD forecasts moderate rain in Andhra Pradesh till June 1

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast light to moderate rain at a few places (26%-50% of stations) across the State until June 1, followed by rain at one or two places (less than 25% of stations) across the three regions of South Coastal A.P., North Coastal A.P. and Rayalaseema from June 1 to 5.Going by the IMD forecast, not much rain is in store for the State for the next four days. But, thunderstorms, accompanied by lightning and gusty winds with a speed of 40-50 kmph, are likely across the State.According to the rainfall forecast issued by the IMD for June, the State is likely to receive above normal rainfall, experience below normal maximum temperatures and above normal minimum temperatures.As of 1 p.m. on Thursday, the IMD said the depression over Northwest Bay of Bengal, off West Bengal-Bangladesh coasts, moved nearly northwards with a speed of 20 kmph during past three hours, and intensified into a deep depression and lay centred at 8.30 a.m. over the same region.It was likely to continue to move nearly northwards and cross West Bengal – Bangladesh coasts between Sagar Island and Khepupara (Bangladesh) by Thursday afternoon.On Thursday, Chagallu station in Palnadu district received the day’s maximum of 70 mm rainfall.Published - May 30, 2025 08:32 am IST
