(File)Mumbai police have arrested a man who allegedly set his wife on fire after she refused to get intimate with him. The woman has sustained around 33 per cent burn injuries and is undergoing treatment. The RCF police in Mumbai have booked the husband on charges of attempted murder.The accused has been identified as Dinesh Awhad, 46, a resident of the Vashi Naka area in Chembur. He had been suspecting that his wife Rekha, 38, was having an affair, officers said. She works as a house help.According to police sources, on Friday afternoon, Awhad demanded that his wife get intimate with him, but she refused saying that she needed to rush to work. This angered Awhad, who started an argument and also abused her. He allegedly accused her of having extramarital affairs and asked her to kill herself.The heated argument between the couple took an ugly turn when the enraged woman poured kerosene on herself and tried to light it with a matchstick. However, the matchstick did not ignite, the police source said. At that time, Awhad burnt a piece of paper at the gas stove in the house and threw it at Rekha, setting her on fire, the source added.Alerted by screams, neighbours rushed in and doused the fire, and rushed her to a hospital. Rekha sustained 33 per cent burn injuries on her chest, stomach, leg, and arms. She was taken to Lokmanya Tilak Hospital in Sion and is undergoing treatment there, said a police inspector at RCF police station.The police were alerted soon.
