This is sad. 🥲 I wouldn't do such a thing but, housing is a bitch for some folks (lots of folks ) to obtain. It's costly, there's red tape, it's in short supply. Never have I faced being unhoused as even a remote possibility. There but for the Grace of God... This country needs to do better. But, it seems we only go backwards. My good friend shared an apt with her mom. This friend has a professional degree, and we live in a LCL area. She still was not able to get a safe, clean, affordable apartment on her own. Thankfully, when her mom passed from COVID in early 2023, I told her immediately, she was moving in with us. ❤️ We had talked about it as a hypothetical for a long time, never expecting her mom, who was only maybe ten years older than I am, to pass. (Her mom lost her husband and younger daughter within six mos of one another, fell into depression, stopped caring for herself, my friend tried every which way into next week to get her help but, when they both got COVID, my friend recovered fast while her poor mom had to be rushed to the hospital, passed away about 3 weeks later.) So, we have a house mate and it's working out great. Our friendship is more like family. And, had we not had the space, I'm certain one or another friend would have offered Katie a similar deal. But... Not everyone has people to help. 🥲
