The Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) has relieved its Pro-Vice Chancellor Professor Shankar Das of his administrative responsibilities with immediate effect, following an alleged complaint of financial misappropriation lodged with the Central Vigilance Commission (CVC). He will, however, continue as professor until final inquiry report.According to a notice issued by TISS Registrar Narendra Mishra on June 5, “Consequent upon approval of the Competent Authority, Prof. Shankar Das, Pro-Vice Chancellor, is hereby relieved from the charge of Pro-Vice Chancellor with immediate effect. This is issued with the approval of the competent authority.”While Das will no longer hold the administrative position, he will continue to serve as a professor at the institute until the inquiry is concluded.While TISS administration was unavailable for a comment, according to sources within the institution, the action follows preliminary findings by an internal committee formed after the CVC forwarded a complaint submitted by a whistleblower. The complaint reportedly pertains to alleged financial irregularities.“A committee was constituted by the TISS administration after the CVC forwarded the whistleblower’s complaint.
