Tottenham fans will love what Pep Guardiola said about Thomas Frank last year

Pep Guardiola’s Thomas Frank prediction edges closer to reality at Tottenham, with the Brentford boss now poised to replace Ange Postecoglou in north London.“Do not be sad it ended, but be happy it happened” is one popular cliche that Tottenham fans have had to live through in the past few days, as Spurs parted ways with Ange Postecoglou after he delivered one of their most cherished memories in recent years, when he won the Europa League. However, that chapter has now closed and the club are once again looking to the future, with Daniel Levy preparing to make his 16th managerial appointment since assuming control in 2001.Thomas Frank now looks set to write his chapter in the storied history of Tottenham, and just like his predecessor, who dared to do the impossible, bringing silverware to the club after a 17-year wait, the Tottenham faithful will be hoping the Dane can build upon Postecoglou’s success.Photo by Stephanie Meek – CameraSport via Getty ImagesPep Guardiola predicts Thomas Frank’s move to a bigger clubThomas Frank is clearly admired by the Tottenham hierarchy, who are said to be fond of the Brentford manager’s ability to nurture youngsters.Of course, they are not alone in their admiration either, as Pep Guardiola, one of the most decorated managers in world football, was quick to dish out praise to Frank back in September, following Manchester City’s narrow 2-1 win over Brentford at the Etihad Stadium.Guardiola did not mince his words back then, confidently predicting that it was only a matter of time before Frank would earn a move to a top European club – and with Tottenham expected to confirm Frank’s appointment this week, that forecast appears to be materialising. He said as relayed by BBC Sport: “They [Brentford] are an extraordinary team. What they do always makes sense. Every corner is a headache. They are compact. This season, they have a high press. Thomas is one of the best.”When asked whether he was surprised Frank had not already landed a job at one of Europe’s elite clubs, Guardiola replied: “It is just a question of time. I am good in a few things, one of which is reading when the manager is good. It is going to happen.”Guardiola’s insight shows what Spurs can expect from FrankPep Guardiola’s comments about Thomas Frank also give Tottenham fans an idea of what they might expect should the 51-year-old Dane take the reins at Spurs this season. The Spaniard was quick to point out that Brentford were one of the toughest teams to face, not only well-organised and physical, but also tactically adaptable – capable of playing direct when needed, yet comfortable building out from the back with a pressing game.He added: “I am a big fan of Thomas Frank. I do not remember in eight or nine years having a team play the way they played. “We were lucky with the deflection because they deserved 1-0. We struggled a lot to read when to shoot and press. We were lucky to find the goals but in the second half we were better and probably deserved to score more goals.”“We needed that to feel how difficult everything is, how difficult the Premier League is every game. People say City are so strong but the Premier League is so difficult. “Today was the real proof. I am a big fan of Brentford. They play long balls but they have the ability to play as well. I give a lot of credit to my players, from where we come from in the past but to still be able to suffer. I prefer to win that way than four or five nil. We need that.”READ MORE: Thomas Frank analysis: Tottenham must weigh up the good, the bad, and the unknownThe post Tottenham fans will love what Pep Guardiola said about Thomas Frank last year appeared first on Spurs Web.
