As Uganda marks Heroes Day, the People’s Front for Freedom (PFF) party, led by President Erias Lukwago, paid tribute to opposition leader and one of its founders, Dr. Warren Kizza Besigye. Lukwago in a message commemorated the day, reflected on a chilling threat made by Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, Uganda’s Commander of Defence Forces, who had vowed to execute Dr. Besigye on this very day. Lukwago Remembers Gen. Muhoozi’s Threats Lukwago, in his message, recalled the threats made by Gen. Muhoozi, the son of President Yoweri Museveni, which had sent shockwaves through the political landscape. “The Commander of the Defence Forces, Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba S/o Gen. Tibuhaburwa Kaguta Museveni had vowed to tie him on a special tree in Gulu and execute him by firing squad on Heroes Day, today 9th June 2025,” Lukwago stated. He went on to express gratitude for the “never failing Grace of the Lord” which had thwarted what he called “nefarious” plans to silence Dr. Besigye. In February, Muhoozi Kainerugaba publicly threatened Besigye, who has long been a critic of the government. He said four-time Presidential candidate would be executed in Gulu, adding “There is no shame in hanging a traitor.” A Hero’s Legacy and PFF’s Commitment  Lukwago, in his message, described Besigye as “a true Hero in every sense of the word,” acknowledging his enduring fight for democracy and human rights. “Long live Rt. Col Dr. Warren Kizza Besigye S/o Kifeefe. Deep in my heart, I do believe we shall overcome some day,” Lukwago added, offering words of hope and solidarity to Besigye and other freedom fighters.
