A Police Corporal is said to be under close arrest for the alleged use of force while handling a matter at the West Central Mall, West Coast Demerara.Part of the incident was captured by onlookers and shared on Facebook. A statement on the incident was later issued by Police Headquarters, noting that the Guyana Police Force’s Office of Professional Responsibility is probing the incident.See below the full release issued by Police Headquarters:OPR investigating incident involving Police ranks and civilians at West Central Mall-Corporal placed under close arrest for alleged use of forceJune 06, 2025: The Guyana Police Force’s Office of Professional Responsibility (OPR) is investigating an incident involving three Police ranks — a Corporal, Lance Corporal and a Constable- of Regional Division #3 and two male civilians which occurred today (Friday, June 6, 2025), at about 12:30 hrs at the West Central Mall, Leonora, West Coast Demerara.Preliminary investigation revealed that the ranks were reporting to a disturbance involving several young males at the West Central Mall. At the mall, two males, a 19-year-old and a 20-year-old, both of Den Amstel, WCD, who were reportedly behaving in a disorderly manner, were pointed out to the ranks who approached the individuals and instructed them to leave the premises.The individuals refused to comply, resulting in the ranks attempting to escort them out of the compound.The matter is currently under investigation by the Office of Professional Responsibility (OPR).The post Police Officer under close arrest as OPR probes incident at West Central Mall appeared first on News Room Guyana.
