Significant magnitude 5.0 quake hits 16 km northwest of Golfito, Costa Rica late at night

A shallow magnitude 5.0 earthquake was reported late at night near Golfito, Provincia de Puntarenas, Costa Rica.According to the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), the quake hit on Friday, June 6th, 2025, at 10:06 pm local time at a shallow depth of 13. km. Shallow earthquakes are felt more strongly than deeper ones as they are closer to the surface.
