The general secretary of the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV), Diosdado Cabello, announced that assemblies of the postulation bases will be held in Venezuela’s communities this Saturday. The assemblies aim to select candidates for the municipal elections on July 27.During a press conference on Friday, June 6, Cabello was accompanied by representatives of the parties comprising the Simón Bolívar Great Patriotic Pole (GPPSB). He stated, “We are going to participate, and we are going to aim for victory.”“We participate without half-measures, without conditions. We recognize the results declared by the CNE, whether they are in our favor or not. This upcoming election will be no different,” he said. “We are going to participate and we are going to aim for victory in the mayoralties and municipal councils throughout the country.”He highlighted that candidate registration will take place from June 9 to June 13. Meanwhile, candidates can hold electoral campaigns during the July 11-24 campaigning period. “For these elections of mayors and councilors, we are going to see new faces with real, authentic leadership from the bases.”He added that the result of the May 25 elections speaks to “the method we used to choose the candidates. The people felt that these were their candidates, hence the huge vote received by the homeland’s candidates.”“We have morals, we have the people, we have the candidates who will come from the heart of the people, and we are the people who will solve our problems,” Cabello said.He added that on July 27, “335 mayors will be elected, including the mayor of Caracas, as well as 2,471 municipal councilors. This is twice the number of positions because both the principal councilors and their alternates will be elected. There are 1,420 positions listed in the municipalities. Of them, 982 are nominal candidates, and there will be 69 candidates of Indigenous representation in eight states.”He further added that on the same day, the Popular Consultation for the election of Youth Projects will also be held.Assemblies of postulation basesCabello called assemblies in the more than 47,000 communities on June 7 at 2:00 p.m. “The system is already open, tested, and revised, without any kind of inconvenience,” he said, given that the candidates for the May 25 elections were selected in the same way.“The assemblies will be an open and popular consultation. They must be broad, fraternal, inclusive, unitary, of solidarity, of equals that would contribute to the strengthening of the unity and morale of our people. They will be led by the head of the communities,” he specified. He added that the candidate selection has to abide by the regulations approved by the plenary session of the PSUV party congress, the aide-memoire on the nomination process, and the format of the lists of participation.Venezuela: Municipal and Mayoral Elections Set for July 27“The data will be uploaded through the CC200 application,” he explained. “The head of the community, on logging in to this application, will find the nominations button. A list will be displayed with the names of the two processes: mayor and councilors, with the list of the assembly’s participants. The application will direct those who load the results according to what is on the page.”Cabello added that the survey methodology will be applied in cases where it may be necessary, and criteria already put into practice will be evaluated, such as the support of the mayoral aspirants in the communal circuit consultation projects or the evaluation of each mayor in the 1×10 Good Government system. In case the assembly cannot be carried out in a community on Saturday, they will have until Sunday to do the work. Cabello highlighted that the procedure will be the same as the previous one, with a national electoral commission of the party. All Venezuelans over 15 years of age will be able to participate in the assemblies and make their nominations.New political map in Venezuela after May 25Cabello said that the May 25 election was a great civic process in which the people exercised their right to vote in peace.“Gone are the calls of the extremist, violent, terrorist right wing, trying to prevent people from going to vote. On May 25, our people massively went out to vote. The results are there, they have created a new political map in our country,” he stated. (Últimas Noticias)Translation: Orinoco TribuneOT/SC/SF
