Lucas Bergvall reveals how it felt to miss out on Tottenham’s Europa League final

Lucas Bergvall has been speaking about his ‘crazy’ first season at Tottenham Hotspur and has opened up on how he felt when he knew that his injury had ruled him out of the Europa League final.From an individual perspective, the Swede could not have hoped for his first season in the Premier League to have gone any better.While it is arguable if he would have got as many opportunities if not for the club’s injury crisis, the youngster certainly grabbed them with both hands, with Bergvall sweeping all of Tottenham’s end-of-season awards.The youngster has been rewarded with a new six-year contract and according to some reports, Bergvall is now in a similar salary bracket to the highest earners at Spurs.(Credit: @thefrederikkejensen / Instagram)Lucas Bergvall opens up on Tottenham frustrationIt felt like the 19-year-old’s fairytale season was building to the ultimate climax, with the stage being set for the midfielder to dominate in the showpiece event in Bilbao.However, the youngster picked up an ankle injury just a couple of weeks before the final and even though Bergvall worked very hard to recover in time for the final, the clash at San Mames came too quickly for him.Thankfully, his teammates got the job done in the final without him and the Sweden international has now opened up what was going through his mind when he realised that he will not be featuring in what would have been the biggest game of his career so far.When asked about missing the Europa League final, Bergvall told Tottenham’s official website: “At first it was really frustrating and so disappointing knowing I wouldn’t be part of it, in terms of playing. But then I knew I had to support the lads, support the team, just help wherever I could, just to be positive and to be there for them.”When asked about his rehabilitation, the midfielder responded: “I’m getting better every day. I’m still here training and rehabbing and I’ve done that for about two weeks now. I’m going on holiday soon, but I just want to make sure everything is right.”Bergvall says there is more to come from next seasonThe teenager admitted that things could not have gone much better for him in his first season in England after arriving straight from Allsvenskan.Bergvall confessed that training with world-class players at Hotspur Way regularly has elevated his game and he whetted the appetite of Spurs fans by suggesting that there is a lot more to come from him.When asked about sweeping all of the awards in his first season at Tottenham, the former Djurgardens man said: “It’s been crazy. I’ve learned a lot this year, both on and off the pitch, just training every day here with some of the top players in the world, the staff.“I’m so grateful for this season and for everyone helping me to achieve these awards. It’s such a big honour. I can’t really describe it.
