Roman Anthony’s Fellow Big 3 Prospects React to His Long Awaited MLB Debut as Red Sox Fans’ Demands Finally Met

Wait 5 sec.

Roman Anthony was casually sitting in the WooSox food room, waiting for a 275-mile bus ride to Allentown, Pennsylvania. The team was traveling for yet another Triple-A matchup. But the bus was delayed. And while addressing that issue, WooSox manager Chad Tracy revealed something that fans have been waiting for a long long time now…The departure had been pushed back as ‘someone’ might need to head to Boston instead of Pennsylvania.“Hey, you’re going to the big leagues,” Anthony was told while waiting in the food room. So, on Monday, he finally made his much-awaited MLB debut against the Tampa Bay Rays. The Red Sox’s ‘big three’— formed by Roman Anthony, Kristian Campbell, and Marcelo Mayer — have been poised to anchor the lineup.Of course, two-thirds of these had already made their mark on the major league roster. And it frustrated the Red Sox nation that, given Anthony’s dominant Triple-A performance, his call-up was delayed for so long. For the record, Campbell has been in the major league since opening day itself. And Mayer joined Campbell on May 24.Both of them were together when the news of Anthony came to light. “Me and Marcelo were together, actually; we were hitting, and we found out,” Campbell shared. “We were both super excited, you know, having been waiting for this the whole year so far, so it’s exciting times for sure.” After all, it had been a while since these three had shared a lineup.Marcelo Mayor also reached out to Anthony just as he got the news. “When I heard, I shot him a text and called him. And I just expressed how excited I was for him and that I’d see him soon.” Further, he added, “You know, one of my best friends on the team just helps that much more.”Mayer was also asked if he had any advice for Anthony as he transitioned to the major leagues. “I don’t think I have to really say anything to him. He’s a pro. He knows what to do. I know he’s going to come up here and put in the work and do whatever he can to help the team win.”On Monday night, against the Rays, all three, Anthony, Campbell, and Mayer, were batting fifth, sixth, and seventh in the Red Sox lineup, respectively. Yeah, we can feel your excitement…Why is Anthony hitting fifth and playing right field in the lineup?Against the Rays, the Red Sox‘s original lineup was a bit different than what eventually happened on the field. Ceddanne Rafaela was supposed to play right field.Kristian Campbell was taking over the center because of Wilyer Abreu’s oblique strain injury. And since Abreu officially got on the 10-day IL, things changed. The team made some major tweaks. They called up top outfield prospect Roman Anthony, as you already know.Anthony reportedly drove from Polar Park to Fenway Park on Monday and was quickly placed in the starting lineup. He batted fifth and took over right field for the series opener. Well, he had played more innings in left field, somewhere around 243, and in center field, he played 89⅓. But on Monday, it was just his fifth start in right field. Before his debut, he had just logged 36 innings. Now, let’s not get carried away because Anthony isn’t expected to be the long-term right fielder for the team. Abreu, the Gold Glove winner, originally owns that spot. But as Alex Cora needed somebody to fill in, Anthony was recalled. “Jarren has done an amazing job in left field with the wall,” Cora said. “Ceddanne is our top defender in center. Instead of moving two guys, we just made the simpler adjustment.”The manager also admitted that the long-term plan will be to involve Anthony on the left, Rafaela as a utility, and Jarren Duran in the center. For now, it’s Anthony’s adaptability that’s been helping the Red Sox when they need it the most. The post Roman Anthony’s Fellow Big 3 Prospects React to His Long Awaited MLB Debut as Red Sox Fans’ Demands Finally Met appeared first on EssentiallySports.
