Eluru police seize ₹65 lakh in fake currency notes, arrest four

The Dwaraka Tirumala police on Saturday (June 7) arrested a three-member counterfeit currency note gang and a receiver. The police also recovered ₹65 lakh in fake currency notes and a car used by the gang.The arrested have been identified as K. Ravi Teja, Sk. Nagur Meeravali and V. Rajesh, natives of Eluru district, and a hotel owner, K. Subramanyam of Dwaraka Tirumala, said Superintendent of Police K. Pratap Shiva Kishore.On a tip-off, the team led by Eluru Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) D. Sravan Kumar and Bhimadole Circle Inspector U.J. Wilson intercepted the gang while they were trying to exchange the fake currency notes with original cash.The accused promised to give Subramanyam ₹15 lakh in fake currency notes for ₹2.5 lakh in original currency notes. The police arrested the gang and the receiver, the police said.The gang also committed a theft at Jangareddygudem and escaped with jewellery. The police recovered gold and silver ornaments from the accused, the DSP said. Further investigations are underway.Published - June 07, 2025 08:04 pm IST
