Blighter Unveils Long-Range ‘Smart’ Border Surveillance Radar System

UK-based Blighter has unveiled its longest-range “smart” border surveillance radar system, which can detect a human from 15 kilometers (9.3 miles) away.Having a longer detection range allows earlier interception of intruders, saving costs for border security operators. The Blighter B422LR (long-range) requires just 4 Watts of power to operate — the same amount that is required by a mobile phone or an LED light bulb — and can monitor an area of 707 square kilometers (274 square miles).Low Power RequirementThe system provides 360-degree electronic coverage without mechanical rotation and uses static, low power, solid-state transmitters. It employs “frequency modulated continuous wave transmission technology, combined with sensitive micro-Doppler target detection” for a small communications bandwidth requirement, reducing transmitter power requirement. Moreover, it can be operated using solar panels and doesn’t require additional forced air cooling, enhancing its appeal for remote operation along borders. “This new ultra-reliable long-range e-scan radar enhances our leadership position in the global border surveillance market,” co-founder and chief technology officer at Blighter, Mark Radford, said.“Our radar’s ability to detect a person 15 kilometers away, or a crawler 6.4 kilometers (4 miles) away, in all weathers and in complex terrains, and with just 4 Watts of transmission power, makes the case for adopting our solution even more compelling.” AI-Enabled Optimized PerformanceThe system uses BlighterNexus software for ease of integration with command and control systems, providing a common operating picture in real time for border authorities. Moreover, its AI-assisted software automates setup, configuration, and adjustment of multiple radars for an optimized performance even in changing weather conditions while reducing training and operational costs.Blighter’s export-friendly radar products are not subject to US International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) or the European Union’s dual-use export control regulations. “Our ITAR-free status and the licensing of our products for commercial and military applications give us a strategic advantage in the global border security market, making us easy to do business with while reducing considerably the licensing requirements for our customers when buying and deploying our technology,” Radford added. The post Blighter Unveils Long-Range ‘Smart’ Border Surveillance Radar System appeared first on The Defense Post.
