By: Express News Service Pune | June 10, 2025 22:47 IST 2 min readThe incident took place around 10 pm on June 1 in Nana Peth areaDAYS AFTER an eight-year-old girl died of electrocution and an 11-year-old boy was critically injured trying to rescue her, the Pune police have booked gangster Shivam Andekar and accomplices after a probe revealed that an illegal flex board with unauthorised electric connection put up by him had led to the mishap. Andekar was arrested by Pune police in an extortion case two days ago.The incident took place around 10 pm on June 1 in Nana Peth area. The girl has been identified as Sayali Ganesh Dambe (8), who received a fatal electric shock after coming in contact with a metal pole in the Doke Talim area. An 11-year-old boy Rudra Yogesh Shilimkar sustained serious injuries when he tried to rescue her by pulling her away from the pole.Initially, an Accidental Death Report was registered at Samarth police station. “Investigation revealed that member of notorious Andekar gang, Shivam Andekar had put up a flex board in the area, without seeking any permission from civic authorities. To illuminate the flex board at night, unauthorised power connection was taken from a nearby electric pole,” said an officer from Samarth police station.“Based on the investigation and reports from the civic authorities, Andekar and his accomplices have been booked on charges of causing death by negligence under BNS section 106. A separate offence of power theft has been registered under the Electricity Act against these accused. Andekar has been arrested earlier in a case of extortion and is in police custody for it,” the officer added.On June 6, the Pune city police had arrested Andekar and his aides for allegedly extorting money from a fish vendor. He was arrested after an FIR in the case was lodged at the Faraskhana police station following a complaint by a 38-year-old man who runs a fish stall in the Nana Peth market area.His uncle, Suryakant alias Bandu Andekar, is known to be the key leader of the Andekar gang and has been booked in multiple serious offences like murder and attempted murder since 1995.
