After Prime Minister Narendra Modi's announcement regarding additional compensation for houses damaged in border areas, Union Home Minister, Amit Shah, allocated an additional Rs 25 crore for the 2,060 affected homes, from the Ministry of Home Affairs.Previously, Modi declared financial aid for houses damaged by Pakistani shelling in the border districts of Jammu and Kashmir post Operation Sindoor, according to the press release by Ministry of Home Affairs.Modi announced additional compensation of Rs 2 lakh each for fully damaged house and Rs 1 lakh for partially damaged house. Similar compensation will also be provided in the border areas of Punjab, the release said.Amit Shah visited Poonch on May 29–30 2025 and provided appointment letters on compassionate grounds to the family members of those who lost their lives due to cross-border firing.
