Yesterday’s Wied Għomor grass fires were controlled by 14 fire fighters in San Ġwann. The Civil Protection Department (CPD) was called at 2.15pm and when the first firefighters arrived, they saw that the fire was spreading onto several patches. They called the CPD control room asking for back up while trying to prevent the fire from spreading further. When more firefighters arrived, the whole team started putting off all the fires and cooling down all the surrounding areas. Several small fire- fighting appliances were used to have deeper penetration in restricted areas whilst the water carrier was left outside to top up all the vehicles on site.
