HYDERABADThe authorities of Telangana Power Generation Corporation (TG-Genco) are making arrangements to commission the second unit of 5x800 megawatt Yadadri Thermal Power Station at Veerlapalem village in Nalgonda district later this month. One unit was commissioned in January this year.According to Chairman and Managing Director of TG-Genco S. Harish, Unit-2 was commissioned in January this year and Unit-1 would be made operational commercially later this month. The remaining three units would be commissioned by February next.Against the requirement of 50,000 tonnes of coal every day when all five units become operational, the YTPS was getting four rakes of Singareni coal by the South Central Railway (one rake carries about 4,000 tonnes of coal) and on commissioning all five units the requirement would be 12-14 rakes a day and it is (getting coal by all rakes) likely to commence from December this year. The CMD stated that the Genco has constructed a railway line from Janpahad take-off point to YTPS site with a cost of ₹500 crore. The progress of YTPS works as also the status of construction of railway siding of YTPS was reviewed at a meeting held here on Monday. The authorities of SCR who attended the meeting stated that they are fully prepared for transportation of coal required for YTPS with the existing rail network. The railway authorities further stated that they were taking up doubling of rail lines between Dornakal-Bhadrachalam Road and Motamarri-Vishnupuram to deal with the increase in traffic. The railway officials suggested Genco to examine other alternative sources of coal supply to the YTPS requirement since Singareni Collieries may not be in a position to meet the future demand.Directors of Genco B. Nagya (Coal & Logistics) and A. Ajay (Civil), SCR officials K. Padmaja, R. Sudarshan and others attended the meeting.Published - July 08, 2025 08:46 pm IST
