July is shaping up to be a major milestone for Galaxy users, with the launch of Samsung's One UI 8 update just around the corner. But while many devices are getting ready to receive the upgrade, a few are being left behind. As Samsung gears up to release the official One UI 8 update to eligible Galaxy smartphones and tablets, it's quietly ending software support for a handful of older models. Starting this month, the Galaxy A22 5G, Galaxy F52 5G, and Galaxy Tab S7 FE will no longer receive security patches or firmware updates.Time to say goodbye to software updatesAll three devices originally hit retail shelves in June 2021, so they received software updates for a total of four years. The LTE version of the Galaxy A22, which launched a month later, will continue receiving updates until August, after which it will join the 5G model on the no-support list. The Galaxy A22 5G and F52 5G both debuted with Android 11 and received two major OS upgrades. The Tab S7 FE received three, stopping at Android 14. None of the devices made it to One UI 7.0 (based on Android 15), and naturally, One UI 8.0 was never in the cards.Still, with the One UI 8 stable release imminent, and all the hype surrounding Samsung's July 9 Unpacked event, where its new foldables will launch running One UI 8 out of the box, it will probably sting owners of these older devices to hear that they will stop receiving software updates completely this very month. But it is what it is. Older devices stop receiving updates eventually, even with Samsung's exceptional update policy that sees the company support dozens of phones and tablets from different price points for years on end. If using outdated software is not an alluring thought, you may want to think about upgrading to a newer device.
