The accused was produced in a court and was initially taken into police custody, following which he was sent to jail.Following a complaint from the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), a 45-year-old man was arrested from his home in Outer Delhi for allegedly impersonating the personal secretary of one of the Ministers of State (MoS), said police.Identified as Lalit Raghav, the accused was running a security agency in West Delhi, but he had to shut it down after facing losses, said officers.“The arrest was made a few days ago when the Delhi Police received a complaint from the Union Home Ministry, alleging that a man was posing as the personal secretary of an MOS. He allegedly tried to get favours in several departments,” a senior police officer at the Delhi Police headquarters said.He acted as a “middleman” and allegedly deceived people by claiming that he could their work done, he added.The New Delhi Range of Special Cell initiated an investigation after an FIR was registered.“During the investigation, it came to light that he printed several visiting cards, mentioning his name as PS of MOS, along with his phone number. He also mentioned the name of MOS in his visiting card,” the officer said.“During questioning, the accused told the police that since he was running his security agency, he had visited the houses of several senior ministers and their assistants. It was during this time, he said, that the accused thought of duping people by posing as an aide of the minister,” the officer added.Story continues below this adDuring questioning, Kumar claimed that he decided to print his visiting cards and started using them for liaisoning. Police said he would often roam around government offices, looking for possible targets. Officials said they are scanning his records and bank statements to ascertain any monetary benefit he might have made.“During one such visit to the GST office, he had given his card in order to get someone’s work done. The bureaucrat smelled something fishy and cross-checked his credentials. It was then that the officer informed the senior officials, and a complaint was filed and an investigation was taken up,” the officer said.
